Ladies Night with a Purpose
(tentative) Thursday, January 29, 2026

Slow down with us for Ladies Night with a Purpose as we stop, breathe, and rest. This special program, led by our very own Shauna Gilden, is tentatively planned for Thursday evening, January 29th, 2026. We’ll blend relaxation with a spark of child-side curiosity as we explore the S.A.B.A.R. technique, tap into our courage center, and create space for meaningful reflection. Expect connection, intention-setting, and a refreshingly calm start to the year ahead. More details coming soon! Save the date—you won’t want to miss this restorative, inspiring night together.

Event Recap

Holiday Cooking Demo with Terry Kingan

On Thursday, November 6th, Dell and Terry Kingan graciously welcomed everyone into their home for a memorable holiday cooking demonstration that was every bit as delicious as it was inspiring. We were thrilled to have 23 DGs attend in person and 6 join via Zoom, making for a lively, engaging, and festive gathering. Terry, with the help of Kristin Wing’s husband, Dave, who assisted with food prep, treated everyone to an impressive array of hors d’oeuvres and desserts perfect for upcoming holiday celebrations.

The menu featured an enticing mix of savory favorites, including pork roast on the rotisserie, Ruthie’s spinach salad, baked mashed potato balls, pan-fried onion dip, roasted shrimp cocktail, spinach artichoke dip, and puff pastry with gruyere and soppressata sausage. For those with a sweet tooth, the evening concluded with indulgent desserts such as commander’s palace cheesecake, creole cream cheese, and warm chocolate phyllo with grand marnier, white chocolate, and raspberry sauces.

DG sisters enjoyed sampling each dish and took home a complete set of recipes to recreate these delicious bites at their own holiday gatherings. Beyond the food, the evening offered a warm and joyful opportunity to reconnect with old friends, welcome new ones, and celebrate the start of the holiday season together.

Attendees also embraced the spirit of giving by bringing canned goods, which Dell generously delivered to Harvesters on behalf of the group.

Delta Gammas Doing Good at Happy Bottoms

On October 21, 2025, eleven members of our Greater Kansas City Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter spent a cheerful and productive morning giving back to the community by volunteering at Happy Bottoms, Kansas City’s largest diaper bank. Our enthusiastic DG sisters rolled up their sleeves and helped process 33,600 diapers—enough to serve 448 children for one month!

Happy Bottoms is a wonderful local nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of families in need by providing diapers to those who otherwise might go without. The organization serves about 18,000 children each year, distributing an amazing 6 million diapers annually through a network of community partners. Each child receives 75 diapers per month, helping families bridge the gap when government programs don’t cover this necessity.

During our time there, we worked together to count, package, and prepare diapers for distribution—all while sharing laughter, teamwork, and plenty of smiles along the way. Our collective efforts will have a direct impact on hundreds of Kansas City families, helping to ensure babies stay clean, dry, and healthy.

This volunteer event was another shining example of “Delta Gammas Doing Good.” By supporting organizations like Happy Bottoms, our alumnae continue to live out the Delta Gamma commitment to service, sisterhood, and making a positive difference in our community.

If you missed this one, don’t worry—there will definitely be a next time! We’d love to see even more sisters join us for fun, friendship, and service. DGs in action—doing good again!

Halloween Fun

Delta Gammas Barb Haden, Cathy Lemon, and 6 Beta Kappa collegians had a great time celebrating Halloween with students from CCVI and KC Mobility. On October 31, we passed out candy to about 60 kids. Parents, staff, and KCPT employees joined us in providing a festive and safe “Trick or Treat” experience. Thanks to freshmen Vincie Nelson, Hadley Kates, Braedee Weatherman, Ashlyn Sherwood, Abby Enderton, and senior, Mallory Renyer, for volunteering their time. Thanks also to Maggie Lowrey, Beta Kappa VP Foundation, for coordinating this activity. We love being involved with collegians!

An Eye-Opening Experience!

Thank you, Jake McLaughlin, Cameron Black, and Scott Cotter from Alphapointe, for giving us tours this past September. On Wednesday, September 17, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, we enjoyed dinner and a presentation before touring the rehabilitation department. We saw where kids learn to prepare meals in a kitchen, do arts and crafts, and learn how to use technology to their benefit. On Tuesday, September 23, from 10:00 to 11:30 am, we toured the manufacturing side of the facility, including the plastics factory.

Did you know that many of your prescription bottles and lids are made by the visually impaired at Alphapointe? In addition to their plastics division, Alphapointe manufactures textiles, janitorial supplies, and office products. Also, visually impaired individuals complete contract management services and call center activities. One job requires top security clearance—they monitor calls made at the state penitentiary and have thwarted several criminal activities in the making. These are just some things that happen at Alphapointe.

Cameron (who is blind and a former client of Alphapointe) shared how Alphapointe created opportunity for him that wasn’t available to him previously. For 10 years, he has been able to provide for himself and his family. He is proud to earn a wage, pay taxes and live a life of purpose. He feels that would not have been possible without Alphapointe.

Volunteer opportunities will be coming up in November and December at Alphapointe. Keep watching for details!

Hambingo at Hamburger Mary's

Thank you to Hamburger Mary's for helping us host a very successful Hambingo fundraiser on Friday, April 25. We had a full house of Delta Gammas, family and friends, and the general public showing their support for our philanthropy.

It was so great to see DG alumnae from Washburn, MU, William Woods, SMU, Baylor, U Conn, KU, Arkansas, and SLU! Priscilla, our Bingo caller, kept us all entertained and several of our DGs won Bingo prizes throughout the night. It was fantastic to see members of the community also having a good time and supporting our fundraising efforts for CCVI, Alphapointe and the Delta Gamma Foundation.

Together, we raised $2,225 which included proceeds from Bingo, two raffles, and cash donations. Congratulations and thank you to Dell Kingan who won our 50/50 raffle and donated her winnings back to our fundraiser.

Thank you, Kathy Zammataro, Jennifer Wilson, Dana Wilhite, and Cathy Lemon for selling Bingo cards and raffle tickets!

Founders Day 2025

“Sisterhood is like a warm quilt wrapped around the heart.” Sisterhood filled the Lionsgate Golf Club as fifty-two Delta Gammas gathered to celebrate our founders, honor our 50+ year members, recognize our national award recipients, enjoy a tasty brunch, and get in touch with our inner creative.

On Saturday March 1, our guest speaker, Merrie Ford, challenged us to learn how to tap into our creative side. After the presentation, each of us had the opportunity to choose a fabric anchor to glue onto a quilt square. Everyone’s squares will be turned into a couple of quilts that will be auctioned to benefit our philanthropies. Some interesting statistics about our group—there were twenty-one collegiate chapters represented, seventeen 50+ year members, three past presidents of the GKC Panhellenic Alumnae group, and women spanning over sixty years in age. This year we recognized Cable Award recipients--Sherri Downing, Kelly Henderson, and Susan Kaster; Loyalty Award recipient Kristin Wing, and Oxford Award recipient Kathy Dusenbery. We also announced our Woman of the Year, Barbara Haviland, who will be recognized at the GKC Panhellenic Scholarship Brunch in April.

Thank you again to Kristin Wing and Danita Hill, who co-chaired such a fabulous event!

October CCVI Tours

This October, alumnae had a chance to learn more about CCVI. The programming team planned two informational tours. On Friday October 18, 2024, we toured the facility and celebrated “Pumpkin Patch Day” with the students in the Sensory Garden. They were able to get a pumpkin or gourd to take home, as well as pet a pony, duck, or chicken. Alyssa Bird, CCVI Development Manager, gave another tour of the CCVI on Tuesday evening, October 22. Even though students weren’t there, we got to see the Sensory Garden before it got too dark, saw a classroom, Braille room, library, and evaluation room. We also learned about the services CCVI staff provide to low vision children and their families throughout greater KC and beyond.
